Once again we are partnering with the IFC Center’s new genre film festival What the Fest!? to present a brief talk before one of their films, and in this case it couldn’t be more perfect for us, having hosted a masterclass with the late Jack Ketchum (aka Dallas Mayr) as the opening event of our NYC branch back in 2016.

For the East Coast Premiere of Pollyanna McIntosh’s DARLIN’ – executive-produced by Jack Ketchum before he passed away in 2018, and expanding on the world he created in OFF SEASON, OFFSPRING and THE WOMAN (the latter with Lucky McKee) – What the Fest!? asked Miskatonic to think of who the perfect speaker would be to present a brief introduction and tribute to Jack Ketchum before the screening, touching on his influences (including an important early mentorship from PSYCHO author Robert Bloch) and impact in the genre, his unlikely beginnings (he was a rock critic-turned literary agent who invented Jack Ketchum as one of his ‘clients’) and finally his rediscovery through the film adaptations of his work, many of which he took a participatory role in – including the film What the Fest!? is presenting here, DARLIN’ – helmed by THE WOMAN herself, Pollyanna McIntosh, who has been beloved by genre fans since her star turn in Andrew Van Den Houten’s adaptation of Ketchum’s OFFSPRING and has recently gained even wider fame through her recurring role on THE WALKING DEAD.

Of course the person we knew we needed was Douglas E. Winter, not only one of horror fiction’s preeminent historians, but also a friend of the late Dallas Mayr. We knew no one could present the kind of informative and personal tribute Douglas could, and were so pleased when he obliged us. So you are all in for a special treat.
